On the other side of the ledger, Phoenix quietly put together one of the better collective weeks of any city. Proof Canteen climbed 8 spots to #77. Andreoli Italian Grocer moved up 7 to #72. And Tratto broke into the Phoenix top 10, landing at #7.
That's three distinct restaurants — a fast-casual canteen, an Italian grocery-turned-dining-room, and a pasta-forward trattoria — all climbing in the same week. Phoenix doesn't always get the national food press attention it deserves. New Top-10 Arrivals Worth Knowing
Four other restaurants broke into their city's top 10 this week. Grey Ghost landed at #8 in Detroit. Travail Kitchen and Amusements reached #8 in Minneapolis. Reading Room came in at #8 in Tampa. And Oleana climbed to #9 in Boston.
Ana Sortun's Oleana has been a Boston institution for two decades. Bon Appétit has praised its eastern Mediterranean cooking repeatedly over the years. A new top-10 appearance doesn't mean it just got good. It means the data caught up to what a lot of Boston diners already knew.
Portuguese Cuisine Is Quietly Rising
The hottest cuisine this week, by average rank gain across tracked restaurants, is Portuguese. An average climb of 2.3 spots across three restaurants isn't earth-shattering in raw numbers, but it's consistent. Portuguese food has been building a national following according to Food & Wine, and the ranking data is starting to show it. Keep an eye on this one. If it holds for another week or two, it stops being a blip and starts being a trend.
